SAINT KATHARINA KASPER
FOUNDRESS OF POOR HANDMAIDS OF JESUS CHRIST
Saint Katharina Kasper, the founder of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, was born on May 26, 1820, in Dernbach. Growing up, she helped her family on their potato farm, went to school in her village, and enjoyed reading. Katharina often visited a special shrine with her friends, where she shared stories about God and Mary. When Katharina was 21, her father passed away, and according to the law, his property went to his first wife, leaving Katharina and her mother in a difficult situation. They had to rent a place to live and Katharina worked on a farm to support them.Katharina was known for her kindness, and many young girls looked up to her. Together with four other women, she started the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, a religious community dedicated to helping others. They promised to live simply and serve those in need.Their work spread to many countries, including Germany, England, India, Mexico, and the United States. Saint Katharina, also known as Mother Mary, passed away on February 2, 1898.
